About Oasis North Shore

Our Mentoring Community

We are delighted to introduce you to Oasis North Shore: a bright, airy, casually elegant therapy office suite and The Gathering Space, an informal common area with floor-to-ceiling windows and original artwork, offering a tree-top view of downtown Evanston in the iconic Chandlers Building. Here, we are building a community of like-minded therapists.

Oasis North Shore space is designed not only for mental health services with offices available on a flexible, short-term basis but is also ideal for small professional gatherings to foster connection and collaboration within our therapy community.

With the isolation of the pandemic and the move toward telementalhealth, we believe that therapists need face-to-face interaction like never before.

To that end, Oasis North Shore founder Dr. Sarah Warren is tapping into her inner convener and inviting you to attend one of our informal collegial gatherings or high-caliber professional development events or become a member of this emerging membership-based community of thoughtful clinicians.

Please join us for wine (or N/A alternative) and cheese as we discuss the challenges of traumatic loss.

    Loss is inevitable.

Some losses are more traumatic than others, having not only to do with the nature of the loss itself but also how our personalities and our personal histories shape the meaning of loss.

Unexpected loss is inherently traumatic. Grief can be protracted and include a range of symptoms associated with PTSD or other traumatic responses.

Grief over unexpected loss is shaped by past experiences with separation and loss, including previous relational trauma.

Recovery from unexpected loss is a life-long process, best considered to be a process of living with– not recovering from– loss.

Insights from psychodynamic and family systems theories, as well as the new science of relational neurobiology, can help us make sense of traumatic aspects of loss and can help point to a path through loss.

The presenters bring to bear both their personal experiences of unexpected loss and their extensive clinical experience of working with individuals and families who are coming to terms with profound, often traumatic losses.

Following the informal presentations, there will be discussion with the audience.

We offer wine from eco-friendly sources and offer N/A alternatives- always!

    Past Programming

A Contemplative Circle for Clinicians (Three Past Group Events)

This contemplative experience was designed to avoid the overstimulation of talking about what's going on in the world and how it's affecting us. We offered an opportunity to sit together as we collectively directed our attention to transcendent perspectives on the challenge of being human in a time of crisis.

Psyche-Soma: Somatic Therapies as Support for Psychotherapy

Colleagues joined for an in-person exploration of how somatic approaches can support and enhance the work of insight-oriented psychotherapy. Group leaders Sarah Tolan-Mee, Eliza Hofman, and Sarah Warren helped participants better understand how the interface between the psyche and the body can deepen the work of insight-oriented psychotherapy.

Therapy & Chekhov: Repetition, Longing, & Resistance to Mortality

Colleagues joined for a convivial evening of conversation over a glass of wine as they discussed psychological insights from Chekhov’s play, Three Sisters. Participants read through Act II of Three Sisters as a way to approach Chekhov's commitment to the minutiae of daily living.

Organic Wine Tasting & Play Reading: Ionesco's "Rhinoceros"

Colleagues joined for a convivial evening of organic wine tasting and shared reading of Eugene Ionescos' classic yet still-relevant play, Rhinoceros. This event was hosted in the casually elegant "Gathering Space" at Oasis North Shore/ARC Professional Group in Downtown Evanston.

Insights from Relational Neurobiology: A Case Example

At this event, Dr. Jessup applied psychodynamic and systems theories and cutting-edge science on the brain-psyche interface to a case study example. We also discussed how relational neurobiology can deepen our understanding and our work.

Mini Retreat: Restorative Yoga for Clinicians

We recently hosted a restorative yoga session at Oasis North Shore. This session was led by Eliza Hofman, MFA, RYT, the session focused on how yoga can rejuvenate and center clinicians amidst their busy lives. With personalized attention, participants explored yoga's ability to shift mood, energy levels, and mindset. We learned adaptable techniques to calm nerves, boost energy, and foster grounding in both personal and professional realms. It was a privileged opportunity for Oasis North Shore to support the therapeutic community with Eliza Hofman's expertise in mental health and neuroscience.

Abstinence-Based & Harm Reduction Approaches in Psychotherapy

We hosted an insightful discussion at Oasis North Shore in downtown Evanston, exploring the integration of abstinence-based and harm reduction approaches in psychotherapy. Led by Sarah Warren, PhD, a clinical psychologist with over 35 years of experience, the session covered applications beyond substance use to other complex cases. Participants discussed a unified approach where abstinence can be achieved through harm reduction, emphasizing harm reduction's role in reducing symptoms.

The 'Garden Variety' Substances We All Treat

At 'The 'Garden Variety' The Substances We All Treat, Sarah Warren PhD gave a case presentation about high-risk patients and their complex relationships with substances. By comparing two cases Dr. Sarah Warren provided comparisons and contrasts regarding their coordination of care. Gathered with fellow Chicago clinicians, Dr. Sarah Warren led a meaningful conversation that sparked insightful questions and fostered new connections. Accompanied by refreshing beverages and organic snacks, this event succeeded in bringing together a community of clinicians.

Specialized One on One & Consultation Groups

With over 35 years of experience as a hospital-trained psychodynamically-oriented psychologist, Sarah Warren is creating a mentoring community of colleagues,  supporting early and mid-career colleagues who want to deepen their theoretical foundation, and providing a venue for senior clinicians and clinical-leaders to share their challenges.
